Still reading about the credit crisis, there was obviously a massive amount of politics that led to the situation. It just proves to show that in the hands of the government is where a lot of these issues start.

The Des Moines City Council has decided to remove the sling launch at the city owned marina after this year. The Des Moines Marina Assoc. is looking for support in trying to reverse the launch's removal. This launch is the only sling launch between Seattle and Tacoma, and will affect the entire region with boating access to water when removed.

The city owned boat ramp at Redondo which will then be the only launch facility between Seattle and Tacoma to Puget Sound, and is not usuable at low tide and has very little protection against the wind and waves, and it will certainly cause people with disabilities to have to give up boating.

There will be one less avenue to Puget Sound for trailerable boats, and the only access is troublesome on windy days. The city of Des Moines does not charge for the launching of boats because they don't want the liability associated the launch. They do, however, charge for parking at the site which provides revenue, but gets around the liability issue. We hope this attracts your attention in helping support this issue in some way, possibly by contacting the city counsel, or contacting DMMA with other ideas that will help save the sling at the marina.
